Day 16: Send a Little Love.

I have always had a bit of a skeptic's eye towards anything that felt too touchy feely or woo woo, so when I was first introduced to loving kindness practice, it made me squirm. You want me to send kind wishes to someone? That seems...silly. However, once I sloughed off that chip on my shoulder, and gave it a chance, I was amazed by how much I loved it. In the tradition of the practice, you can generate feelings of compassion and love just by thinking kind thoughts. You can send them to yourself, someone you love, someone you feel neutral towards, someone you struggle with, or even the community at large. This morning, I balanced my baby on my legs, looked her in the eyes, and offered her loving kindness: May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be peaceful. May you be safe. I swear she smiled back at me. Unless it was gas. But it wasn't.
