Day 31: Work Efficiently

After 4 1/2 weeks of a blissful work-free season, I decided I was ready to prepare for my debut back into the workforce. Approaching my laptop in an official capacity was intimidating, but I was ready to dive back in and get to work...until I opened that Facebook tab. And then found a news story I wanted to read. And clicked through to a second story. And suddenly it was 20 minutes later, I hadn't gotten anything done, and my baby woke up from her nap.

I have quickly learned that in order to work while raising my kiddo, I have to be efficient and laser-like in my focus. There is no diverging from my task. In order to do that, I have to commit my full attention to my work. There are some practical ways I have done this, by keeping only the tabs I am using open, and not even bothering with Facebook, for example. But there's also a commitment of my undivided attention to the project at hand. When I get stuck, instead of clicking around to other sites, I take three deep breaths, close my eyes, and get back to it. There's really no time to waste.
