Day 34: Hostage Situation

My baby naps best on top of me, holding me hostage for an hour or two while she sweetly drifts in and out of dreamland. At first, I wriggled under her weight, desperately wanting to get up and do something...laundry, dishes, emails, polishing off presentations, writing this piece. Once I was able to let go of needing this time to be productive, I was able to savor these sweet, sleepy moments. After all, there is nothing better than napping with my baby. I love feeling the rise and fall of her gentle breathing as she drifts off. I love soaking in the warmth where her body snuggles against my own. I love watching her tiny body respond as I take in a deep inhale and slowly release. I love the soft squeeks she emits from her slightly grinning lips. This is especially precious as the cold gusts into New England and our drafty old house begs us to cozy up. We don't have many excuses to just be still in our world. So I invite you to give into this time when you are held hostage by your little one. Be quiet for a moment and bask in the sensations of their restfulness. Perhaps you may capture a couple of zzz's yourself.
