Day 49: From 10,000 feet

We are in a developmental leap right now, which means the gains we made with sleep are out the window and the inconsolable crying in back with vengeance. My feeling about this: grr.

It can be so easy to feel discouraged in these moments when you are in them. Here we are again. But when we back away a little, and disentangle ourselves from this immediate thoughts and emotions, we can gain perspective. When this baby is 18, and leaving home, we will reminisce fondly about these early days. When we give ourselves some space, we can see a little more clearly. Perhaps we can even laugh a little, as if we were in those future shelve's shoes. Remember when that dang baby didn't sleep for 4 nights in a row? Yeah, me too.

After all, it is not the event that creates the suffering. It is the thinking about that event. So back up... 10,000 ft up if you can, and see this moment for what it is. Simultaneously our entire world and only a blip.
