Day 61: Mindful Transitions

I have found that a day can feel hectic when you are rapidly transitioning from one activity to the next, as dictated by a baby. Even if there is not much going on, the day takes on a fragmented quality that can make it feel overfull.

In response to this, I have started a three-minute meditation at the start of every nap cycle. I set a timer for three minutes, close my eyes, and tune into my breath. This creates a smoothness during these transitions and helps slow down the day. When I take the time to check in, my experience is less one of rushing around from one thing to the next, and more one of easeful movement. These mini practices also build capacity throughout the day, and allow for more focused work blocks right after practicing.

So consider adding super short practices, one-three minutes, throughout the day to refocus the mind and ease your way from one activity to the next.
